Built in 1860, the Mason-Lloyd-Wiley house was one of the first brick homes built in Chapel Hill. There are only 26 homes in Chapel Hill with historic plaques and only 12 are older than this home. James B. Mason, a trustee of the university, is the first known owner. In 1885, Mason sold the home to Thomas F. Lloyd, who built the large cotton mill in Carrboro that is now Carr Mill Mall. The house stood empty for a long time during the Depression before W.L. Wiley, a professor of romance languages at UNC bought it in 1938 for $4000. Now, having undergone a historically sensitive major renovation and system modernization, this grand residence is presented in a light that honors and showcases its past while also offering the features desired in today’s luxury homes. Discover one of Chapel Hill’s finest properties.
